What to expect during your holiday minis?
This guide will help you prepare for a heartwarming holiday photoshoot that will leave you with timeless family images to cherish for generations.
1. What to expect at a Holiday Mini Session?
You should prepare for a fun and fast-paced photoshoot. Mini sessions usually last approximately 15 minutes, so they are short and sweet. Involve your family in preparing for the photoshoot. Discuss your ideas and preferences, including what to wear. Making it a family affair adds to the excitement and ensures everyone feels included.
2. Choosing the Perfect Location:
Select a location that best matches your family preference or style. It could be in your cozy home with holiday decorations, at a gorgeous studio setup (we have 3 options to choose from) or a picturesque park where your family loves spending time. Consider the place that best represents your family's holiday spirit but also keep in mind that a studio session provides the peace of mind of a perfect setup!
3. Coordinated Wardrobe:
Coordinate outfits as a family to create a unified look - avoid clashing patterns. Neutrals are my favorites and they look great, whites look fabulous! You can wear seaters to make it look cute and cozy. Traditional holiday colors like red, green, or gold work wonderfully as well. Dressing in a coordinated manner adds a touch of togetherness to your photos.
4. Timing for Beautiful Light:
Good lighting is essential for capturing heartwarming family moments. For outdoor sessions opt for the "Golden Hour" just before sunset to benefit from soft, warm lighting. If you opt for in home shoot, ensure it takes place when natural light streams in through windows.
5. How do I prepare the kiddos?
Make sure your baby is fed/changed right before the session so they are happy during it! For the older little ones, it’s always a good idea to bring their favorite holiday toy or treat to keep them happy and smiling.
6. Posing and Candid Moments:
Work with your photographer to plan a mix of posed family shots and candid moments - we will guide you throughout your session. Candid shots can capture genuine family interactions and emotions, making your photos more memorable.
8. Embrace the Weather:
If your photoshoot takes place outdoors in winter weather, be sure to dress warmly and prepare for the conditions. A snowy backdrop can be magical, but it's essential to prioritize your family's comfort and safety.
9. Arrive Punctually:
Arrive on time for your photoshoot - since these mini sessions are often back to back, it is not possible to accommodate late arrivals. Plan to arrive early to make the most of the available time and ensure you have enough time to capture precious family moments.
10. When should you book?
These sessions can be fully booked early - don't wait too long to book your Christmas session, especially if you want your photos to be delivered in time for holiday cards or gifts. These sessions are quite popular during the season, so secure your spot early.
A Christmas Mini Photoshoot is a fantastic way to capture the warmth and joy of the holiday season.
Enjoy your holiday photoshoot, and may your family memories be as heartwarming and festive as the images captured! <3
